Josh Suggs re-signs with New Mexico United

Veteran defender ranks second in regular season minutes in USL Championship history

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Friday the club had re-signed defender and captain Josh Suggs ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. Suggs – who grew up in Las Cruces and attended Las Cruces High School – made 15 USL Championship appearances in his fourth season with United. He has served as captain of United since the club’s first match in 2019.

Suggs is fourth all-time in appearances in the Black & Yellow, playing in 89 matches in all competitions. In the Championship’s regular season, he leads the club all-time with 106 interceptions while having also notched 119 clearances and 353 recoveries. Suggs has also notched four goals and six assists in regular season action for United.

The 33-year-old is set for his 12th season in the Championship, having begun his professional career with Orange County SC in the league’s inaugural season in 2011. Suggs ranks second in the Championship’s regular season with 19,390 minutes of action in his career, while sitting sixth with 237 regular season appearances. He has recorded 12 goals and 24 assists overall, having also previously competed for Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
