MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Thursday the club had exercised its 2023 contract options on midfielders Luiz Fernando and Lucas Turci, retaining the Brazilian duo for the new USL Championship season. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

Fernando joined 901 FC ahead of the 2022 season and notched four goals and five assists in 29 appearances for the club as a key piece in one of the league's best attacks. The 25-year-old has made 140 appearances in the Championship overall after previous stops at the Richmond Kickers, Atlanta United 2 – where he played for new 901 FC Head Coach Stephen Glass – and the Tampa Bay Rowdies and has notched 12 goals and 15 assists in his career.

“Luiz was an outstanding addition to our team in 2022 and his contribution on the field speaks for itself,” 901 FC Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “He’s a true winner and we look forward to welcoming him back in 2023 in pursuit of a USL Championship.”

Turci appeared in 23 matches for 901 FC in 2022 and recorded one goal and one assist, playing a variety of roles as he made his debut in the Championship while also notching 14 chances created, 13 interceptions and 58 recoveries. The 26-year-old joined Memphis last season after previously competing in Germany.

“We are delighted to welcome Lucas back in 2023. He is a versatile player that plays many positions for us with quality,” said Patterson-Sewell. “We believe 2023 will be a big year for Lucas and look forward to him contributing in a big way.”
