Louisville City FC center back Joshua Wynder has been named a finalist for U.S. Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year award, presented by Chipotle, after starring for both club and country during the past 12 months.

Wynder is one of five nominees for the award, with the public portion of voting open through December 21 via U.S. Soccer.

A Louisville, Ky. native, Wynder starred for LouCity throughout the 2022 campaign as he made 24 appearances across the regular season and playoffs while helping the side earn its fourth Eastern Conference title. Wynder made 21 starts and logged 1,945 minutes of action and scored his first two professional goals while defensively he recorded 32 interceptions, 54 clearances and 11 blocked shots and posted a 60.9 percent duel success rate and 70.7 aerial duels success rate.

The 17-year-old also made a notable contribution to LouCity in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, scoring the game-winning penalty kick in the club’s Third Round contest against St. Louis City SC 2 in April. He was voted as a finalist for the USL Championship’s Young Player of the Year award in November, capping a standout domestic campaign.

Wynder’s performances for LouCity saw him earn his first international call-ups for the United States at the U-19 level, where he appeared in all five of the side’s contests during the calendar year. Wynder twice captained the side, including in a 2-1 victory against England in June, and notched one assist as the USMNT U-19s went undefeated during the year.

Wynder is one of three players with USL Championship or League One ties nominated for this year’s Young Male Player of the Year award, with 2020 USL League One Young Player of the Year Chris Brady and former Championship standout Paxten Aaronson also nominated for the award. Current United States international Yunus Musah and United States U-17s goalkeeper Diego Kochen are also nominated for the award.
