COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed defender Duke Lacroix ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“I’m looking forward to joining Colorado Springs,” said Lacroix. “The club has high aspirations and I’m excited to help this club achieve playoff runs and silverware.”

Lacroix joins the Switchbacks having spent the past two seasons with fellow Championship club Sacramento Republic FC. The University of Pennsylvania grad recorded 63 appearances and 54 starts for Republic FC across the Championship’s regular season and playoffs, recording two goals and five assists, and made four appearances during the team’s run to the Final of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup this past season.

A native of New Egypt, New Jersey, Lacroix competed for USL League Two club the Ocean City Nor’easters while attending Penn. In 2015 he joined the professional ranks with Indy Eleven and notched three goals in 31 appearances across a pair of seasons with the club. He then joined the Championship’s Orange County SC before moving on to Reno 1868 FC, where he recorded four goals and 11 assists in 62 appearances in the Championship.

Over his career, Lacroix has made 147 appearances in the Championship’s regular season and playoffs, notching eight goals, 16 assists and 115 chances created. He has also been a key figure in the USL Black Players Alliance and was the designer of the 2022 USL BPA “Dream In Color” scarf, produced in collaboration with the USL.

“Duke is a very experienced and well-respected player in the league,” said Switchbacks Head Coach and General Manager Brendan Burke. “He’s a player I’ve followed since his first time at Penn and looked forward to working with. His pace, work ethic, and understanding of multiple positions will keep him in our team week-in and week-out throughout the season, I’m sure.”
