INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Tuesday the club had signed forward Sebastian Guenzatti ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval, and terms of the contract will not be disclosed.

Guenzatti’s arrival at Indy was unveiled following the announcement earlier in the day by the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the mutual parting between the club and Guenzatti. The 31-year-old arrives at Indy having recorded 59 goals and 18 assists in 145 appearances in the Championship’s regular season for Tampa Bay since his arrival midway through the 2017 season.

“I want to thank Indy Eleven for giving me this opportunity,” said Guenzatti. “I am still hungry and have the same motivation as my first day, and my family and I are very excited to get to work and achieve great things.”

Guenzatti departed the Rowdies as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with a total of 65 goals across all competitions for the club. The Uruguayan led Tampa Bay in goals across four consecutive seasons from 2018-21 and played a vital role in the Rowdies’ success in recent years, which included USL Championship Eastern Conference titles in 2020 and 2021, another Eastern Conference Final game appearance in 2022, and the league’s top regular season mark in 2021.

“Sebastian has been one of the top marksmen in the league the past four to five seasons, so to bring him to Indy is a show of intent on the type of players we want in this group - winners, leaders, and fierce competitors,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Mark Lowry. “However, it’s not just Sebastian’s goals that stand out. We appreciate his all-around game, his ability to link the play with the midfield and to get on the ball and create as well as being inside the box when the ball comes in.”

Guenzatti has twice been voted to the USL Championship’s All-League Team, taking Second Team honors in 2019 and First Team honors in 2021 alongside being nominated for the Championship’s Most Valuable Player award. His 59 goals currently rank tied for 10th all-time in the Championship’s regular season.
