SEASIDE, Calif. – Monterey Bay F.C. announced on Friday the club had signed forward Christian Volesky to a new two-year contract, pending league and federation approval. The move retains a key contributor for the Crisp and Kelp ahead of the 2023 season, the club’s second in the USL Championship.
Volesky recorded seven goals and two assists for MBFC this past season, including a game-winning goal against Sacramento Republic FC in August and a two-goal performance against Phoenix Rising FC in September. In doing so, the 30-year-old surpassed 50 regular season goals in the Championship for his career, with his 52 goals in 179 regular-season appearances ranking Volesky 18th in the league’s history.
“It is great to have Christian back for the next two years,” said Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. “Once he got himself fully healthy, he really played well for the team. He added much needed speed and his play in the final third was good with not only goal scoring, but his assists as well.”
In addition to his nine total goal contributions, the Henderson, Nevada native created 23 chances and recorded team-highs in shots (45) and shots on goal (23). Defensively, Volesky added 15 clearances, 11 tackles, four interceptions and two blocks, while earning USL Championship Team of the Week honors in Week 29.
“For me, it was a simple decision, we have unfinished business,” said Volesky. “The MBFC family is building something special here, and I am happy to be a part of it. 2023 should be an exciting time for us, and we expect to be playing meaningful games in October and into November.”
