Veteran center back signs two-year deal, set for seventh season with Le Rouge in 2023

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Thursday the club had signed longtime captain Stephen Carroll to a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club through the 2024 USL Championship season.

Carroll was first signed for Detroit City FC ahead of the 2017 season and has been part of the team every year since. This past campaign for Le Rouge, Carroll started in all 30 of his appearances as he amassed 2,601 minutes of action and first on then team with 32 blocked shots and second on the team with 52 interceptions.

The 29-year-old also notched a pair of goals, both of which served as game-winners against Atlanta United 2 on April 9, and on the road against Hartford Athletic on April 23. Overall, the native of Cork, Ireland has made 74 appearances for Le Rouge in the professional ranks.
