MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Monday the club had exercised its one-year contract option on defender Rece Buckmaster, retaining the full back for the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Buckmaster led 901 FC with 3,139 minutes of action during the 2022 season and started in all 35 of his appearances across the regular season and playoffs while only being substituted off only twice. The 26-year-old also led the team with 79 interceptions to go with 50 clearances and in attack tallied five assists and one goal.
“Rece is an absolute warrior,” said 901 FC Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “He is a fantastic defender with a huge amount of quality. Having Rece back with us in 2023 is exciting for the club and our fans.”
Buckmaster has made 91 appearances in the USL Championship across the regular season and playoffs in his career, with prior stints at both Indy Eleven and the New York Red Bulls II. His five assists in the 2022 campaign were an individual single-season high, and he has now recorded two goals, seven assists and 51 chances created in the Championship over 7,139 minutes of action in his career.
