MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Friday the club had exercised its one-year contract option to retain forward Phillip Goodrum for the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

The Nashville, Tenn. native set a club record with 22 goals across the regular season and playoffs in his first campaign in Memphis, including finding the net in 901 FC’s first postseason victory in club history against Detroit City FC in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs presented by Hisense.

The 25-year-old was voted to the Championship All-League First Team honors after finishing second in the race for the Golden Boot. Goodrum averaged a goal every 123.6 minutes across the regular season and playoffs and notched six assists as 901 FC finished second in the Eastern Conference standings.

“We are excited to have Phil back with us for the 2023 season. He had a fantastic season and is an incredible player for us,” said 901 FC Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “Outside of his scoring contributions, his work rate and personality are massive for our group. We look forward to Phil having continued success in 2023.”

Goodrum has recorded 28 goals and 12 assists across three seasons in the Championship during his career, having previously spent two seasons with Atlanta United 2 after being selected in the Third Round of the 2020 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Atlanta United FC. He had previously competed collegiately at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington.
