El Paso inks Ricardo Zacarias to new deal after breakout season

Midfielder tied for Locomotive FC lead with seven assists during 2022 campaign, set for third season at club

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Ricardo Zacarias to a new contract ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval. The Las Cruces, New Mexico native has been with El Paso since May of 2021 after joining from USL League One side Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.

Zacarias made 30 appearances in the 2022 season and tied for the team lead with seven assists alongside fellow returnee Josue Aaron Gomez. In his second season with Locomotive FC, the 27-year-old recorded 1,626 minutes of action and notched one goal, completed 27 key passes, and boasted an 87 percent passing accuracy rate in the Locomotive FC defensive half.

Prior to his time with the Red Wolves in League One, Zacarias spent five years in Mexico in the third division, playing for Club America Premier, Irapuato, Coras De Nayarit, and La Piedad.
