TAMPA, Fla. – The 2022 USL Championship Playoffs, presented by Hisense, will kick off next weekend with four Conference Quarterfinal matches on Saturday, October 22 and two matches on Sunday, October 23. All six Conference Quarterfinal matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
For the second consecutive year, the USL Playoff Preview Show will also stream live on ESPN+ on Monday, October 17 at 5pm ET. Hosted by analysts Joe Malfa, Devon Kerr and former Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey, the USL Playoff Preview Show will break down each opening round matchup, share highlights from the regular season, and discuss each team’s chances to advance to the USL Championship Final on Sunday, November 13 on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and SiriusXM FC (Ch. 157).
Fourteen teams have qualified for the single-elimination 2022 USL Championship Playoffs. Louisville City FC and San Antonio FC – the first-place teams from the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively – have secured a first-round bye, with San Antonio holding potential homefield advantage through the playoffs.
The opening weekend of postseason action features compelling contests highlighted by the first playoff meeting between Florida rivals the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Miami FC, who will square off next Saturday night at the Rowdies’ home of Al Lang Stadium. Elsewhere in the East, Memphis 901 FC will play host to Detroit City FC as Le Rouge make their USL Championship Playoffs debut, while Birmingham Legion FC will host Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Sunday evening at Protective Stadium.
Rio Grande Valley FC and Oakland Roots SC claimed the final two playoff berths in the Western Conference, meanwhile, with the Toros set to visit Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in its second consecutive playoff trip and Oakland headed to California rival San Diego Loyal SC next weekend. Sacramento Republic FC will play host to New Mexico United in the other Western Conference Quarterfinal in a rematch from the 2019 postseason.
The second, third, and fourth seeds from each conference will play host during the Conference Quarterfinals. The bracket will be reseeded following each round of the playoffs with Louisville and San Antonio hosting the lowest remaining seed in their respective conference in the Conference Semifinals.
