TAMPA, Fla. – Even for a team in first place and closing in on the top overall seed in the USL Championship playoffs, San Antonio’s schedule for the month of September looked daunting.

Five matches in 22 days awaited, including four contests against teams in the Western Conference playoff field at kickoff. After starting the month with a visit to Oakland, San Antonio FC returned home for clashes against second-placed San Diego Loyal, fifth-placed New Mexico United, third-placed Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and fourth-placed Sacramento Republic FC.

Despite the difficult and congested schedule, San Antonio posted a 4-0-1 record and conceded just one goal the entire month, leading to goalkeeper Jordan Farr winning the USL Championship Player of the Month for September presented by Konami eFootball.

Farr was previously named Player of the Month in April. He is the only player to pick up the award more than once this season.

“Top players consistently perform and execute, game after game, and Jordan has done that. It’s no surprise for his repeated earned recognition,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina.

Farr posted 12 saves against just one goal conceded over the course of the month. Three of San Antonio’s victories were by a score of 1-0, meaning Farr’s saves were absolutely critical with no margin for error. He also saved a penalty kick in a 1-0 victory over San Diego.

“Top players consistently perform irrespective of the level of the challenge or even the adversity faced,” Marcina said. “We expect that he continues to come up big when called upon and we are confident he will.”

The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been stellar all year. He currently leads the USL Championship with 15 clean sheets in 32 appearances. For as dominant as San Antonio’s record of 24-5-4 is, its goal difference is quite low at +28. That means most of San Antonio FC’s games are tight and Farr needs to be at his best for his team to get a result.

“It’s clear Jordan has performed on the field, but his growth as a leader both on and off the field has been substantial,” said Marcina. “Jordan is the first to acknowledge and state to his teammates that all successes and recognition are due to the collective commitment.”

With one match to go in the regular season, Farr is tied for the lead in the race for the USL Championship Golden Glove with a 0.74 goals-against-average with Louisville City FC’s Kyle Morton, but Farr leads via tiebreakers with his 15 clean sheets.

Farr received 46 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. Memphis 901 FC’s Phillip Goodrum finished second on 24 percent of the vote a month in which he scored five goals, including a hat trick against Atlanta United 2, and added an assist. Monterey Bay F.C.’s Sam Gleadle finished third on 13 percent after scoring four goals and assisting three more in September.
