USL Championship, League One players called up for international duty

28 players from eight countries selected for senior and youth international duty

TAMPA, Fla. – 28 players currently competing in the USL Championship and League One have been called up for senior and youth international duty in September during the upcoming FIFA international window.

Six Championship and League One players face a big test against Peru at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. (Sept. 27, 8 p.m. ET). Another Concacaf-CONMEBOL contest will see Phoenix’s Kevon Lambert and Pittsburgh’s Jahmali Waite face World-Cup-bound Argentina at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. (Sept. 27, 8 p.m. ET).

In OFC-AFC action, San Diego’s Kyle Adams and Detroit’s Deklan Wynne will join New Zealand’s senior squad as the All Whites face a home-and-away series against neigboring Australia in Brisbane (Sept. 22, 6 a.m. ET) and Auckland (Sept. 25, 12 a.m. ET).

A unique trip for Trinidad and Tobago’s senior squad will see the Soca Warriors travel to Chiang Mai province, Thailand for the 2022 King’s Cup. Six USL Championship and League One players will face Tajikistan (Sept. 22) in their opening match. A win against Tajikistan would mean the Soca Warriors would face the winner of the other semi-final contest between Thailand and Malaysia (Sept. 25).

Six Puerto Rican players representing USL Championship, League One and League Two clubs were set to face the Dominican Republic in Miami on Sept. 22, but the contest was postponed due to the passage of Hurricane Fiona through the Caribbean.

The lone USL participants in CAF action are Indy’s Rodney Michael and Charleston’s Augustine Williams as they join Sierra Leone to match up against South Africa (Sept. 24, 9 a.m. ET) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Sept. 27).

On the youth international level, Atlanta United 2’s Vicente Reyes has earned a call-up to Chile’s U-20 National Team which is participating in the Costa Cálida Supercup in Murcia, Spain. La Roja will face the youth teams of England (Sept. 21, 5 p.m. ET), Australia (Sept. 24, 5 p.m. ET) and Morocco (Sept. 27, 9 a.m. ET).

Back in North America, U-20 internationals from the United States will face off in the 2022 Revelations Cup in Mexico City. Marcus Ferkranus (Phoenix Rising FC), Jalen Neal (LA Galaxy II), Caleb Clark (New York Red Bulls II), Daniel Edelman (New York Red Bulls II) and Jackson Hopkins (Loudoun United FC) will join the U.S. squad to face Peru (Sept. 21, 5 p.m. ET), Mexico (Sept. 24, 7 p.m. ET) and Paraguay (Sept. 27, 10 p.m. ET).

At the U-19 level, Louisville City FC’s Joshua Wynder and Orange County SC’s Korede Osundina have traveled to Terme Catez, Slovenia with the U.S. U-19’s to participate in the Slovenia Nations Cup against Malta (Sept. 21, 1 p.m. ET), Croatia (Sept 23, 1 p.m. ET) and Scotland (Sept. 27, 11 a.m. ET).

For El Tri, Atlanta United 2’s Jonantan Villal and Mexico’s U-18 side travel to Zlin, Czech Republic to face Finland (Sept. 21), Slovakia (Sept. 23) and Germany (Sept. 25). Additionally, Charleston's Fidel Barajas will join Mexico's U-17's in Poland for the Syrenka Cup which features Portugal, Poland, England, Uzbekistan, Norway, Romania and the Czech Republic.
