COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Friday the club had acquired defender Sebastian Anderson on loan from the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2022 USL Championship season. The details of the transaction have not been made public. Under the terms of the loan agreement, the Rapids retain the right to recall Anderson at any point during the remainder of the MLS regular season, subject to all MLS roster compliance guidelines.

Anderson will be available for selection in Colorado Springs’ contest against Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.

“Seb was a big part of our group last year just like Mikey [Edwards] and will add another starting quality piece to our group during our push to bring a home playoff game to Colorado Springs,” said Switchbacks General Manager and Head Coach Brendan Burke. “The team and staff are excited to have him back.”

Anderson was loaned to the Switchbacks in March 2021 in a group loan of five Rapids players and now rejoins the team for the conclusion of the 2022 season. Anderson made 28 appearances with the Switchbacks in 2021 and notched six assists while completing more than 1,100 passes while holding a passing accuracy rate of greater than 84 percent. Defensively, the 20-year-old won 46 of 78 duels.

This season Anderson made one appearance for the Rapids and played on loan with the Rapids 2 in MLS NEXT Pro, where he notched one goal and one assist in 12 appearances.

Anderson came up through the Rapids Academy and signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Rapids in April 2019 to become the youngest signing in club history. At 16 years old, Anderson was the youngest player to debut for the club while also becoming the youngest player to score a goal in Major League Soccer for the Rapids.

The Colorado native appeared in six MLS matches and four USL Championship matches in his first season with the team.

“I’m excited to be back,” said Anderson on the loan. “I’m here to do whatever I can to help the team win games and hopefully win the USL Championship. I’m excited to be back in front of the amazing fan base here in Colorado Springs.”
