For the second time in little over a month, Orange County SC supporters flooded the Irvine City Hall in support of their club, aiming to ensure it remained at longtime home Championship Soccer Stadium in the 2023 USL Championship season.

After more than six hours of speeches and deliberation by the Irvine City Council, the fans and the club got the news they were hoping for, securing the venue for the club’s 13th campaign as it continues to build its brand within the region and bring ever-increasing crowds to the venue at Orange County Great Park.

“We want to thank the Councilmembers and City staff for their work to get to this point – all we ever wanted was certainty for 2023 and now we have it,” said the club in a statement. “We want to thank our fans, particularly those who sat through six hours of deliberations last night and have endured a difficult and uncertain period for the club.

“We also want to thank the fans of all other clubs around the world who have supported us through this journey – the soccer community in the U.S. is stronger than many people realize, and we are grateful for the support we received.”

Orange County SC welcomed a club-record sellout of 5,500 fans to its regular season contest last Saturday night against the LA Galaxy II as Milan Iloski scored his 20th goal of the season in a 1-0 win. The club is anticipating another sellout for its next home game on October 1 against in-state rival San Diego Loyal SC and is already in full swing when it comes to season ticket sales for the 2023 season.

“After all we’ve been through together this past few weeks, we can promise an electric game day atmosphere every weekend at Championship Soccer Stadium next season,” said the club in its statement. “This is a victory for common sense, for community and for soccer fans everywhere – a message that local sports are important, that everyone’s voice matters and that the soccer club you are part of is here to stay in Irvine, in Orange County.”
