Memphis’ Phillip Goodrum earns second award of season after first career hat trick

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 27 of the 2022 regular season on Tuesday, with Memphis 901 FC forward Phillip Goodrum voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball for the second time this season after recording his first professional hat trick in a victory last Wednesday night against Atlanta United 2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

In the middle of a breakout campaign, the Tennessee native bagged his second weekly award after claiming the honor in Week 11 earlier this season. Goodrum scored the first three goals of 901 FC’s victory against his former club, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half before completing his hat trick six minutes after the halftime break. The 25-year-old now sits second in the USL Championship Golden Boot race with 17 goals this season while helping Memphis currently sit in second place in the Eastern Conference standings after booking a second consecutive trip to the USL Championship Playoffs.

Goodrum earned 38 percent of the ballot to claim the award. Indy Eleven’s Solomon Asante finished second on 33 percent after recording the first three-assist game of the 2022 season and the second of his career in the Championship during his side’s 4-3 victory against Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday night.
