French shot-stopper’s brilliant denial against Louisville City FC took top spot in poll

TAMPA, Fla. – The Charleston Battery’s Hugo Fauroux has earned the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award for August, claiming the honor after his outstanding one-on-one denial of Louisville City FC’s Jorge Gonzalez took top spot in the poll conducted over the past weekend.

A new arrival with the Battery this season, Fauroux has recorded 66 saves so far this season after taking the reins between the sticks after an injury to early-season starter Joe Kuzminsky. A graduate of the AS Monaco academy in his native France, the 26-year-old showed off his pedigree on the road against Eastern Conference leader Louisville City FC after Gonzalez knifed through the defense on a run up the left side, cut centrally into the penalty area only to see his shot from 12 yards parried away to safety by the French shot-stopper.

Fauroux’s save earned 35 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com over the past weekend. San Diego Loyal SC’s Koke Vegas took second place with 30 percent for his fingertip save to deny El Paso Locomotive FC’s Josue Aaron Gomez, while New Mexico United’s Ford Parker finished third on 23 percent after a brilliant double-save against the LA Galaxy II at Dignity Health Sports Park.
