PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Thursday it had acquired defender Hayden Sargis on loan from Major League Soccer club D.C. United though the end of the 2022 USL Championship season, pending league approval.

D.C. United retains the right to recall Sargis this season.

“Hayden is a player that fits our game model and our style of play,” said Rising FC Head Coach Juan Guerra. “He is a player I know very well from his time in Sacramento. He is a player I enjoy watching. He’ll be able to come in and make a positive impact right away.”

Sargis was a finalist for the USL Championship’s Young Player of the Year award in 2020 after joining the professional ranks with fellow USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC, where he had previously been part of the club’s Academy system. The 20-year-old made his professional debut on March 7, 2020 and appeared in 33 matches for Republic FC over two seasons.

D.C. United acquired Sargis via a transfer from Sacramento and signed him to a three-year contract through 2024 with options in 2025 and 2026 prior to the start of the 2022 season. He has appeared in 18 matches this season in the Championship on loan with Loudoun United FC.
