DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Thursday the club had acquired goalkeeper Joe Rice on loan from fellow USL Championship club Loudoun United FC for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Rice, a Fairfax, Va. native, joined Loudoun ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. Since then, Rice has started five matches for the Red-and-White, recording 20 saves.
The 26-year-old had previously competed for USL League One side the New England Revolution II over the past two years, and last season ranked third in USL League One with eight shutouts in 20 appearances.
The 6-foot-4 shot-stopper made his professional debut with the Richmond Kickers of USL League One in 2019. In 2018, Rice made 13 appearances for Lionbridge FC in USL League Two. Prior to his professional career, Rice competed collegiately at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
