Red Bulls II bring aboard Ecuadorian forward Stiven Plaza

23-year-old made two appearances in La Liga for Real Vallodolid, has played for senior national team


The New York Red Bulls II have acquired Ecuadorian forward Stiven Plaza on a free transfer from La Liga's Real Vallodolid.

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls II announced on Tuesday the club had acquired forward Stiven Plaza on a free transfer from Real Valladolid, pending league and federation approval.

Plaza made two La Liga appearances with Real Vallodolid during his time with the club. He also made 11 appearances for Real Valladolid B, where he scored a goal and collected an assist. The 23-year-old was most recently loaned to Independiente del Valle in the Ecuadorian Serie A. He scored seven goals and tallied four assists over 31 appearances with the club.

“We are excited to bring in an attacking option like Stiven,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “We hope that his experience and goal-scoring capabilities will provide an immediate impact to the group.”

Plaza made his debut with the Ecuadorian National Team in October of 2018 at the age of 19. He has also featured for Ecuador’s U-20’s.

“Stiven possesses great physical qualities that will help him thrive in our system,” said Red Bulls II Interim Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya. “We are excited to add him to our group of attacking options.”
