MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Friday the club had acquired midfielder Handwalla Bwana on loan from Nashville SC of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2022 season. Under the transaction agreement, Nashville has right of recall at any point during the loan.
“Handwalla is an exciting attacking player, and we are delighted to welcome him into our group,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Sewell said. “He will provide us with an added attacking threat and experience within the group as we progress through the last part of the season.”
A former Seattle Sounders FC Homegrown signing, Bwana traded to Nashville in October of last year. The attacking midfielder has made one appearance in MLS competition for Nashville SC this season and notched an assist in two US Open Cup appearances. The 23-year-old native of Somalia brings prior USL Championship experience to Memphis, having recorded one goal and three assists in 16 appearances for the Tacoma Defiance previously in his career.
“I’m excited to join the 901 family,” said Bwana. “I look forward to helping the team achieve bigger goals, make a good run to the playoffs and finish the season as USL champions.”
