A pair of teams in need of a bounce-back display will square off on Sunday evening in Southern California to round out Week 23 in the USL Championship’s regular season, with New Mexico United looking to solidify its place in the top four in the Western Conference.

Here’s a look ahead to the action.

The Lowdown: The LA Galaxy II and New Mexico United will both take aim at returning to the win column after defeats last time out with Los Dos hoping to move back into the playoff positions and United aiming to remain in the top four of the Western Conference standings. The Galaxy II fell 2-0 on the road against Loudoun United FC last Saturday night, a defeat that kept the side in eighth place in the West, two points behind seventh-placed Las Vegas Lights FC. The hosts will again be without leading scorer Preston Judd as he serves the second game of a caution accumulation suspension, but Los Dos has other attacking talent including 19-year-old winger Cameron Dunbar and could also potentially feature Mexico U-20 international Jonathan Perez. New Mexico suffered a 3-0 defeat to Miami FC on its home turf last Saturday for a second consecutive setback, but the side was boosted by the return this week of forward Kevaughn Frater, who recorded 14 regular season goals for the side in its inaugural season in 2019 and 17 goals in all competitions, further bolstering the club’s attacking corps. Sunday’s game is the first this season between the teams, with their last meeting coming in 2019 when Frater and Chris Wehan were both on target for the visitors in a 2-2 draw that saw Augustine Williams and Mo Kamara score for Los Dos. With the season coming into the final stages, a victory would go a long way for both clubs toward their overall aims for the campaign.

Spotlight Players
LA Galaxy II – Liam Doyle:
The veteran center back will look to lead Los Dos’ back line against a New Mexico attack that features a number of good options including the recently arrived Romario Williams and Frater.

New Mexico United – Amando Moreno: The El Salvador international has made a steady return from a torn ACL suffered late last season and could be key to unlocking the Galaxy II’s defense in a key road game for United.
