TAMPA, Fla. – New Mexico United’s Alex Tambakis has claimed the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award for July, earning the honor for the third consecutive month after his late kick-save against Monterey Bay F.C. to earn United a point on the road at Cardinale Stadium took top spot in the poll conducted over the past weekend.
This season has seen Tambakis move into second in the Championship’s regular season saves list while helping New Mexico stake its claim for a third trip to the USL Championship Playoffs in four seasons. The Greek standout made another key save this season late in United’s first trip to Monterey Bay on July 2 when he posted a four-save performance that included a key late denial of Robbie Crawford’s low shot to the left corner of the net that preserved a 1-1 draw for the visitors.
Tambakis’ save earned 52 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com over the past weekend. For a second consecutive month, San Antonio FC’s Jordan Farr took second place as he earned 25 percent for his one-handed save to deny El Paso Locomotive FC’s Dylan Mares as SAFC clinched the Copa Tejas on July 23, while Oakland Roots SC’s Paul Blanchette took third place on 17 percent after a tremendous double-save to keep out Sacramento Republic FC’s Luther Archimede and Emil Cuello on July 9 at Heart Health Park.
