Championship Player of the Month Nominees – July

Five players shone brightly as the second half of the 2022 season began, which gets your vote?

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Championship Player of the Month award Presented by Konami eFootball for July, honoring five of the top performers throughout the past month of the 2022 season as they take their place on the ballot.

Voting in the Championship Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLChampionship.com will comprise 51 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, August 7 at 12 p.m. ET.

  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 25 percent of the poll.

  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 24 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, August 11.

Please note: The USL Championship Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL Championship Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.

USL Championship Player of the Month – July 2022

Milan Iloski, Orange County SC – The Championship’s new Golden Boot leader recorded six goals as well as two assists in the month, averaging a goal every 73.5 minutes while posting a +1.49 G+ mark.

Hadji Barry, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC – The reigning Championship MVP had his best month of the season so far, recording six goals and two assists at an average of a goal every 100.3 minutes and 12 chances created.

Leo Fernandes, Tampa Bay Rowdies – After claiming Player of the Month in June, Fernandes remained hot in July, scoring five goals at an average of a goal every 76.4 minutes while also adding two assists and 10 chances created for a 1.83 G+ rating.

Brian Ownby, Louisville City FC – Ownby recorded four goals at a strike rate of a goal every 107.8 minutes while also notching two assists and winning 7 of 10 tackles, earning a league-best 3.04 G+ rating for the month.

Ben Lundt, Phoenix Rising FC – Lundt led the Championship with four shutouts in July and ranked second with 27 saves, posting a goals-against average of 0.83 and a save percentage of 84.4 percent for Rising FC.
