The month wraps up with New Mexico United heading to the northeast, aiming to solidify its position

The final day of July gives us a first-time matchup on Sunday night as New Mexico United heads for an interconference clash with the New York Red Bulls II looking to solidify its path to a postseason berth.

Here’s a look ahead to all the action.

New York Red Bulls II vs. New Mexico United

The Lowdown: New Mexico United will aim to continue its recent undefeated streak and bolster its position in the top four of the Western Conference – which would earn the side the first home playoff game in its history – as it heads to face a New York Red Bulls II that has won only once at home this season. New Mexico extended its undefeated run to six games in dramatic fashion last Saturday night as Neco Brett scored the equalizer in second-half stoppage time in a 2-2 draw against Detroit City FC at Keyworth Stadium. Chris Wehan also found the net for the visitors on a superb first-half free kick as he made his return to the lineup for the first time since July 3. New York, meanwhile, suffered a 2-0 defeat on the road against Monterey Bay F.C. as it remained in last place in the Eastern Conference standings, but the side did win its last outing at home against Indy Eleven on July 15 in a 1-0 result that saw Jeremy Rafanello score the only goal of the game. The hosts will be hoping for a similar performance on Sunday, as will the sides chasing New Mexico in the Western Conference standings as the week’s action wraps up.

Spotlight Players
New York Red Bulls II – O’vonte Mullings:
The versatile defender leads the Red Bulls II in minutes and with three assists this season and will need to put in a strong performance to help contain United’s attacking weapons.

New Mexico United – Chris Wehan: After bagging his fifth goal of the season against Detroit, Wehan will look to continue what has been a solid season so far after his standout performances a campaign ago.
