OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Wednesday it had reached a loan agreement with USL League One club Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC for midfielder Wolfgang Prentice, who will join Hailstorm FC for the remainder of the 2022 season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“It’s a new place for me, I’ve never been to Colorado before,” Prentice said. “I’m always excited for new opportunities, so I’m excited to be here.”

Prentice has made one appearance this season in the USL Championship for Roots SC as a substitute in the club’s 4-1 victory against Loudoun United FC on April 16. The 22-year-old had previously made his club debut in Oakland’s 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contest against Greenville Triumph SC in on April 7.

A native of California, Prentice played collegiate soccer at California State University at Northridge, where he recorded four goals and five assists in 35 appearances. Prior to joining the college ranks, Prentice competed in the LA Galaxy Academy, and in 2015 was called up to the United States U-15 Men’s National Team.

“Wolfgang has come in highly motivated, great attitude, young, eager, humble,” said Hailstorm FC Head Coach Eamon Zayed. “He wants to get his head down and get some game time. He’s highly rated by the Oakland coaching staff, so I’m obviously happy to get him in and hopefully he’ll add to our squad in the second half of the season.”
