Switchbacks FC’s Michee Ngalina Takes Championship’s Goal of the Month Award

Highlight-reel finish from impossible angle against Indy Eleven claimed monthly award

TAMPA, Fla. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Michee Ngalina has won the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month award for June as his audacious finish against Indy Eleven at Weidner Field on June 18 finished top of the poll conducted over the past weekend.

The 22-year-old Congolese winger has had another strong season with the Switchbacks, notching seven goals and five assists so far this campaign. The pick of the finishes so far this season came in a thrilling seven-goal contest that saw Ngalina pick up possession on the right side midway inside the attacking half and drive on his marker toward the byline where from a narrow angle he powered home a shot at the near post to send the home fans into wild celebrations. Ngalina’s goal came in at No. 4 on ESPN’s Futbol Americas Countdown and provided one of a league-leading 10 goals from outside the penalty area so far this season for the Switchbacks.

Ngalina’s goal earned 40 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com to claim the award. Sacramento Republic FC’s Damia Viader finished in second place on 33 percent for his outstanding long-range strike against Detroit City FC on June 11 at Keyworth Stadium, while the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Leo Fernandes finished third on 15 percent for a brilliant piece of skill and volleyed finish against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on June 25.
