The longtime LouCity winger has played a key role in the club’s sustained success over six seasons

There are few players with a more instantly identifiably look than Louisville City FC’s Brian Ownby.

The shaved head and long beard that have become his signature look – a long way from when he first played in the professional ranks at Houston Dynamo FC a decade ago – make him stand out from the crowd.

So does his play. This Saturday afternoon, the veteran winger will be one of the key figures as LouCity heads to face Hartford Athletic at Trinity Health Stadium in the USL Championship’s nationally televised game presented by Hisense on ESPN (1 p.m. ET).

Ahead of the contest, here are six things you should know about Ownby from his career so far.

1. SIDE BY SIDE: Ownby competed at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup for the United States and scored in the side’s 4-1 victory against Cameroon in the group stage. Among his teammates in the squad was current LouCity Head Coach Danny Cruz.

2. PLAYOFF OWNBY: Brian Ownby has been one of the consistent players in USL Championship Playoffs history. He’s tied for the all-time lead in postseason history with seven goals in 21 appearances, which account for almost 20 percent of his 36 overall goals in the league across the regular season and playoffs.

3. RUNNING IN READING: Brian Ownby’s time at Reading United AC before his senior season at the University of Virginia in 2011 was short, but memorable. In four games for the perennial USL League Two contender, Ownby recorded four goals and three assists in 303 minutes of action.

4. LENDING A HAND: With 27 regular season assists, Ownby is tied with longtime teammate Oscar Jimenez for the most regular season helpers in LouCity’s history. Jimenez has the edge in the playoffs, though, with five to Ownby’s three.

5. VETERAN CORE: Brian Ownby made his debut for Louisville City FC on March 25, 2017 in a Kings’ Cup clash against Saint Louis FC. He’s one of six players who appeared that day who is still an active player at the club, joined by Oscar Jimenez, Sean Totsch, Paolo DelPiccolo, Cameron Lancaster, and Niall McCabe.

6. 200 UP: With 189 regular-season appearances in the Championship for his career, Ownby is likely to be the next player to join the 15 so far who have reached 200 regular season appearances in the league later this season.
