Young Atlanta goalkeeper Vicente Reyes called up by Chile

ATLANTA — Atlanta United 2 announced on Wednesday goalkeeper Vicente Reyes had been selected by the Chilean national team for the upcoming FIFA international window.

Reyes will train in Chile from May 30 to June 14 as part of a ‘projection group,’ where two of nine players will be selected to join the rest of the team in Asia for matches against South Korea and Japan. Previously selected for U-17 and U-15 squads, this is Reyes’ first callup to the senior squad.

The 18-year-old has made four starts for Atlanta in the USL Championship this season, recording 16 saves for a 57.1% save percentage. Reyes’ performance for his side has been consistent, as he has logged a +0.08 goals minus expected goals mark so far this campaign according to American Soccer Analysis. Overall, Reyes has made 10 appearances in the USL Championship for his career, recording 40 saves and a 60.9% save percentage

Reyes previously won the USL Championship Save of the Week award in Week 1 for a fingertip stop against Louisville City FC. He is currently nominated for Week 12’s award after a standout denial against Detroit City FC this past weekend.
