Birmingham’s scoreless streak reaches three games as Kasim’s late effort rings crossbar

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC and Las Vegas Lights FC were unable to find a breakthrough as the first meeting between the sides resulted in a 0-0 draw at Protective Stadium that saw Legion FC’s scoreless streak extend to the past three outings.

Birmingham got the first good look at goal in the 12th minute when Anderson Asiedu’s shot from outside the penalty area was saved, but the visitors seriously threatened seven minutes later when Mexico U-20 international Tony Leone was played into space on the right to center for Christopher Jaime, whose first-time shot was parried by Legion FC’s Matt VanOekel. The hosts began to regain control after that scare and almost hit the front 10 minutes later when Enzo Martinez was kept out by a good save by Lights FC’s Abraham Romero to send the game to the break scoreless.

Romero did well again seven minutes into the second half as he challenged a close-range effort by Zach Herivaux off a corner kick, while six minutes later Juan Agudelo headed over the crossbar off a corner kick from the right by Prosper Kasim. Leone also had a chance with 19 minutes to go for the visitors as he cut in off the right flank but was unable to find the target with his finish to the near post from 14 yards.

Legion FC had a big chance to break the deadlock with nine minutes to go as a good piece of buildup resulted in a cut-back cross through the penalty area from the left that came to Kasim, whose first-time shot crashed against the crossbar and came out. That would be the closes either side came to a winner, though, as Birmingham’s attacking struggled continued.
