Reid scores in fifth minute of stoppage time to earn 1-1 draw for hosts at Riccardo Silva Stadium

MIAMI – Miami FC’s Adonijah Reid scored with the final chance of the game in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time to deny Detroit City FC victory as the first meeting between the clubs resulted in a 1-1 draw at Riccardo Silva Stadium on Wednesday night.

Miami came out on the attack and had a pair of early chances inside the opening 10 minutes but both Junior Palacios and Pierre Da Silva were unable to hit the target with their finishes. Le Rouge took time to find their feet, meanwhile, but scored on their first official shot of the game in the 22nd minute when Antoine received possession on the left side, played a pass to Pato Botello Faz inside the penalty area and then received a return pass in space as the defense dropped off, allowing the veteran forward to curl home a finish from 16 yards into the bottom-right corner of the net.

The hosts forced a pair of saves from DCFC’s Nathan Steinwascher through Mark Segbers and Othello Bah before the halftime break before Bah came close to leveling the game five minutes into the second half as the Liberian international rattled the underside of the crossbar from the left side of the box before the visitors were able to hold off the second chance opportunities.

Hoppenot believed he had doubled Detroit’s lead as he finished from close range off a cross from the right but was ruled offside in the 57th minute, while eight minutes later Miami’s Romeo Parkes had a header comfortably saved by Steinwascher to keep DCFC ahead. Reid also threatened for the hosts as he cut between defenders to receive a pass near the top of the penalty area but didn’t get enough purchase on his shot to test the goalkeeper. As it appeared the visitors would claim all three points, however, Reid grabbed a point for the hosts, brilliantly turning past his defender 10 yards from goal to set up a left-footed shot that Steinwascher got a piece of but wasn’t able to keep out to earn Miami a valuable result.
