Goals by Carroll, Kissiedou see 901 FC take 2-1 victory at AutoZone Park

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Goals either side of halftime by Zach Carroll and Laurent Kissiedou sent Memphis 901 FC to a 2-1 victory against Indy Eleven on Saturday night at AutoZone Park, bringing to an end Indy’s four-game winning streak as the hosts claimed a second consecutive victory.

Indy created an early chance in just the second minute as Neveal Hackshaw made a foray forward to latch onto a pass by Nicky Law that he shot just wide of the left post. Law himself also went close with a shot that clipped the outside of the side-netting with a shot from the top-left edge of the penalty area as the side exchanged chances in the opening half-hour, with Memphis going close on a shot by Kissiedou that was held by Indy goalkeeper Elliot Panicco. 901 FC took the lead in the 34th minute, however, as off a corner kick from the left, the hosts kept the play alive and saw a header by Patrick Seagrist back into the box bounce to Carroll, who finished clinically from 12 yards.

The visitors almost answered immediately as Justin Ingram fired a shot from 25 yards to the bottom-left corner to force a save by Memphis’ Trey Muse a minute later, but after a quiet start to the second half, 901 FC grabbed its second goal of the night just before the hour-mark as Jeremy Kelly lifted a pass over the top to Kissiedou, who controlled and quickly shot low to the left corner from 30 yards as he saw the goalkeeper coming off his line to potentially challenge.

Indy pulled a goal back with 24 minutes to go as Manuel Arteaga found Jonas Fjeldberg just outside the top-left edge of the penalty area, and the Norwegian burst into the penalty area before firing a shot that went through Muse’s hands and over the goal line. The visitors were unable to add to their goal, however, and it was Kissiedou that in fact came closest to finding the net in the closing stages with a powerful shot just wide of the right post. 901 FC closed out the result from there, however, to solidify their top-four position in the Eastern Conference.
