Venezuelan midfielder’s late long-range winner against Miami FC claims honor for April

TAMPA, Fla. – Phoenix Rising FC’s Luis Seijas has claimed the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month award for April as his outstanding late game-winner against Miami FC at Wild Horse Pass on April 23 finished top of the poll conducted over the past weekend.

The Venezuelan midfielder has been one of the key figures for Rising FC with four goals so far this campaign, and he came through in spectacular fashion as Phoenix rallied to take victory in its first meeting with the South Florida side. With only two minutes to go, a clearance off corner kick came to Seijas beyond the top-left edge of the penalty area, and he controlled with his first touch and then unleashed a left-footed shot from 25 yards that clipped the underside of the crossbar and dropped into the net to send the hosts to victory.

Seijas’ goal earned 34 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com to claim the award. Detroit City FC’s Pato Botello Faz finished in second place on 23 percent for his sharp close-range finish against Memphis 901 FC on April 2, while San Antonio FC’s Elliot Collier finished third on 21 percent for his curling finish that proved the game-winner against El Paso Locomotive FC on April 16.
