Detroit City FC announced on Monday it had acquired veteran defender Karl Ouimette on loan from fellow USL Championship club Indy Eleven for the remainder of 2022 Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Ouimette has made three appearances for Indy Eleven in 2022, two in the Championship’s regular season action and one in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The 29-year-old has recorded 108 appearances across all competitions for Indy since joining the squad in 2018, which places him second all-time in the club’s history. The Quebec native is one of three players in Indy Eleven’s nine-year history to play in five seasons with the club, joining Ayoze and Brad Ring on that short list.

“I want to thank the Indy Eleven organization and the incredible fans for all the support they’ve given to me,” said Ouimette. “I felt their love throughout my time here and that made has Indianapolis feel like a second home for me and my family.”

Ouimette joins a Detroit City side that currently sits in second place in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference and will add depth to a group that has conceded only four goals in eight league games this season while keeping four shutouts in league play. He brings the experience of 18 senior international appearances for Canada earlier in his career, having also previously played for the New York Red Bulls and Club de Foot Montreal in Major League Soccer.
