Mexico U-20 international records goal, two assists in 3-0 win at Dignity Health Sports Park

CARSON, Calif. – Jonathan Perez recorded a goal and two assists as the LA Galaxy II swept to a 3-0 victory against Phoenix Rising FC on Sunday evening at Dignity Health Sports Park to claim their third home win of the season and end Phoenix’s four-game winning streak in league action.

The Galaxy II got out to an ideal start in just the second minute when Perez found Remi Cabral in the left side of the penalty area and the French winger produced an audacious lobbed finish that dropped into the right side of the net. Phoenix had a chance to level soon after as Claudio Repetto curled a shot just wide of the right post after the visitors had won possession in the LA half, but in the 13th minute Perez delivered his second assist of the night as the Mexico U-20 international threaded a through-ball for Cameron Dunbar into the left side of the box for a low first-time finish to the right corner.

Phoenix had a chance to pull a goal back on the half-hour mark when Greg Hurst fired a low shot from the top of the penalty area that was saved by the Galaxy II’s Eric Lopez, but the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute when Darnell King was sent off for an off-ball incident behind the play. Despite that, Aodhan Quinn forced a good save from Lopez four minutes later with a curling shot the top-left corner, but three minutes before the break Perez made it three for the hosts as he broke forward on a counterattack and shot home from the right side of the penalty area.

Perez almost added his second goal of the night three minutes into the second half with a low shot from 20 yards that went wide of the left post, but Rising FC continued to try and find a way back into the game. The visitors were denied brilliantly by Lopez with 23 minutes to go as he made a one-handed save to deny Santi Moar after a cross through the penalty area from the right by Epps, and Hurst also shot wide of the left post three minutes later. Neither side would find the net in the closing stages, however, as Los Dos evened the season series between the clubs.
