Ayoze scores only goal for hosts at Michael A. Carroll Stadium for fourth consecutive win

INDIANAPOLIS – Ayoze scored the only goal as Indy Eleven took a 1-0 victory against Hartford Athletic in a weather-delayed contest at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Saturday night that saw the hosts claim their fourth consecutive victory in league action.

Indy had an early chance in the eighth minute when Manuel Arteaga headed over the crossbar off a corner kick from the left by Raul Aguilera, but after neither side was able to create many clear chances in the first half the hosts struck just before the halftime break. A pass upfield was cleverly flicked into the path of Ayoze by Stefano Pinho, and the veteran drove forward in the left channel before shooting low just inside the right post for a fine opening goal.

After a lengthy delay before the start of the second half, Indy looked to add to its lead as two minutes in Pinho was denied by a fine save by Hartford goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton. The Athletic shot-stopper was called on again to deny Ayoze as he knifed into the penalty area 10 minutes later before the visitors had a chance to equalize on a shot by Rashawn Dally that was turned wide by Indy goalkeeper Elliot Panicco. The hosts looked the more likely to add to their lead, though, and Nicky Law was denied by a good block by Hartford defender Tom Brewitt with 16 minutes to go before Arteaga shot wide of the left post from 20 years.

It remained a one-goal game going into the closing stages, though, and the Athletic had a pair of late chances to try and grab a point, the first when Joel Johnson’s effort off a corner kick from the left was saved by Panicco. Modou Jadama then curled a free kick over the crossbar with a minute to play, but from there the hosts were able to see out the win and continue their strong recent run of form.
