SAN ANTONIO – Nicky Hernandez had a goal and assist as six different San Antonio FC players found the net in a 6-0 victory against Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday night in a breakout attacking performance by the hosts at Toyota Field.

San Antonio created a good early chance off a corner kick from the right that was sent to the back post where Mitchell Taintor headed back across goal for Jasser Khmiri, whose header went wide of the left post. The hosts threatened again in the eighth minute when an attempt to clear by the Monterey Bay defense came to Elliot Collier, whose shot from the left side of the penalty area was turned wide by a kick-save from MBFC’s Dallas Jaye. The visitors also threatened too and in the 12th minute Simon Dawkins had his shot turned onto the right post by SAFC goalkeeper Jordan Farr after angling through the left side of the penalty area.

The chances continued to come for the hosts, though, and Jaye had to make another good save to tip over a curling effort by SAFC’s PC from 20 yards in the 16th minute. The pressure eventually paid off five minutes later as a low cross by Connor Maloney from the left wasn’t cleared, allowing Collier to control and shoot home from close range. Five minutes later, PC added a second as he slid home a finish after Hernandez curled a cross to the top of the six-yard area for the Brazilian.

Hernandez added a third for the hosts six minutes before halftime as he slid in at the back post to volley home a deep cross from the left by Maloney, and San Antonio added a fourth with 14 minutes to go when a corner kick from the right by Mohammed Abu was knocked home at the back post by Taintor. Collier could have added another a couple of minutes later only to be first denied by Jaye before sending the rebound wide of the left post, but with seven minutes to go Justin Dhillon put away a sweeping cross by Fabien Garcia before Jordan Ayimbila notched a sixth off a corner kick by Garcia in stoppage time to wrap up the result.
