Belize forward has goal, assist in 3-1 victory as MBFC hits woodwork after pulling within a goal

CARSON, Calif. – Michael Salazar had a goal and assist, while Cameron Dunbar notched two helpers as the LA Galaxy II took a 3-1 victory against Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Neither side was able to create much in the early going and it took until the 24th minute for the first shot on target to arrive as the Galaxy II’s Dunbar set up Remi Cabral for a shot that was saved by MBFC’s Dallas Jaye. The hosts threatened again three minutes later when Salazar first had his shot blocked by Monterey Bay’s Hugh Roberts before Cabral fired just over on a second chance, but Los Dos took the lead five minutes before halftime when Dunbar’s cross from the right found Salazar in space and his finish squeezed home into the right side of the net.

Monterey Bay had a chance to level almost immediately as a low cross deflected to Hugh Roberts inside the penalty area only for the defender to shoot just wide of the right post, but Los Dos doubled their lead 12 minutes into the second half as Duhaney Williams bundled home from close range after controlling a cross from the right by Dunbar for his second assist of the contest. The visitors tried to find a way back into the game and pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when Seku Conneh produced a diving header to the left corner off a cross by Morey Doner.

MBFC almost leveled three minutes later when Christian Volesky hit the crossbar with a shot from 20 yards, while Salazar also went close for the hosts with 11 minutes to go with a shot that slid just wide of the top-left corner of the net. Los Dos wrapped up the victory with four minutes to go, however, as Salazar’s long clearance off a corner kick for the visitors found Preston Judd, who controlled possession and then spun away from his marker before shooting low into the left corner of the net to earn a valuable win for the hosts.
