Murphy scores first goal for new club in 2-1 victory at Riccardo Silva Stadium

MIAMI – Kyle Murphy and Romeo Parkes scored early and late as Miami FC took a 2-0 victory against Hartford Athletic on Saturday night at Riccardo Silva Stadium for its second shutout win in a row as Hartford was held scoreless for the first time this season.

The game opened evenly, but Miami had the first good chance of the game in the 13th minute when Murphy fired a snapped shot toward the bottom-right corner of the net that Hartford goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton got down well to save. Three minutes later, however, Murphy notched his first goal in Miami’s colors as he beat Slayton to a clipped ball over the top of the back line by Paco Craig, rounded the goalkeeper to the left and finished into an open net.

Hartford almost leveled just past the half-hour mark as Ashkanov Apollon was given space by Miami’s midfield to unleash a shot from almost 30 yards that goalkeeper Connor Sparrow had to turn onto the left upright and away to safety. The hosts also found the woodwork moments before the break, too, as Pierre Da Silva fired a shot from 25 yard that clipped the right post and went behind for a goal kick.

The Athletic went close within 90 seconds of the start of the second half as Rashawn Dally flicked a header wide of the left post, and Dally had a bigger chance just before the hour-mark after the visitors won possession in Miami’s half and set up a pass across the penalty area by Prince Saydee that the local product turned wide of the right post. The hosts then hit the woodwork again in the 66th minute when Da Silva’s shot from the left side of the penalty area was turned onto the left upright by Slayton, but with three minutes to go, Miami wrapped up all three points when Parkes received a pass in the left channel and fired home a shot to the right corner to secure the result.
