Indy Eleven’s new signing has delivered in the attacking third beyond any other player since arriving in the league in 2018

Since Solomon Asante arrived in the USL Championship before the 2018 season, there have been players who have scored more goals across the regular season and playoffs. There have also been players who have come close to matching his creativity and ability to produce assists as well.

Putting those two abilities together? Well, now you know why everyone calls him Solo.

With 54 goals – 49 in the regular season and five in the playoffs – and 42 assists across his career in the league, there has been no-one that has contributed to more goals over the past four-plus seasons than the two-time Championship MVP.

Asante’s 96 combined goals and assists – an average of 0.87 G+A per 90 minutes in the league – outstrip his nearest competition in current New Mexico United forward Neco Brett by 15, and that’s with Brett having had the chance to gain ground at the start of this season. The Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Sebastian Guenzatti is more than 20 back, while the closest assists men over that span – led by recent teammate Aodhan Quinn with 38 – are more than 25 back.

All of which is to say Asante has been a special talent, and arguably the best player in the league’s history overall going back to fellow two-time MVP Kevin Molino, now of the Columbus Crew.

His top five goals in the Championship so far are a good illustration as to why.
