DCFC shot-stopper claimed narrow victory in fan-voted poll to earn first monthly award of season

TAMPA, Fla. – Detroit City FC’s Nathan Steinwascher has claimed the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award for March, narrowly claiming victory over his fellow nominees for his penalty-kick save against San Antonio FC in Detroit’s debut in the Championship on March 12.

One of the holdovers from Detroit City’s squad a season ago as it moved to the Championship, Steinwascher impressed over the first month of the campaign. He introduced himself to the league with a fine full-stretch stop to keep out a penalty kick by SAFC’s PC to the left corner of the net at Toyota Field, the most impressive of a handful of big saves the Michigan native made during March.

Steinwascher’s save earned 27 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com over the past weekend. Atlanta United 2’s Vicente Reyes finished second on 26 percent for his excellent reflex save to deny Louisville City FC’s Corben Bone on the opening day of the season, while Monterey Bay F.C. Rafael Diaz finished third on 25 percent for a strong low denial on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Hadji Barry on March 19.
