Harris, Ownby both on target at Segra Field as visitors remain undefeated to start season

LEESBURG, Va. – Louisville City FC scored early in both halves to take a 2-0 victory against Loudoun United FC on Sunday afternoon at Segra Field as Wilson Harris and Brian Ownby both found the net for the visitors.

LouCity took the lead in just the fourth minute as after a turnover near the halfway line, Ownby clipped a clever pass over the Loudoun backline for Jorge Gonzalez on the left. Gonzalez controlled and centered for Harris, who took a touch to evade a covering defender and tucked home his finish. Gonzalez had a chance of his own in the 15th minute on a low effort from 20 yards that was saved by Loudoun’s Jon Kempin, while Ownby also had a chance nine minutes later but wasn’t fully able to control his finish as it sliced wide of the right post.

Having been held without a shot in the opening half, Loudoun put its first chance on target as Jacob Greene’s curling effort was saved by Louisville’s Kyle Morton three minutes after the break. Ownby doubled LouCity’s lead five minutes later, however, as he beat the high United defensive line to break onto a pass over the top by Wesley Charpie and lobbed Kempin as he came off his line. The veteran winger had a big chance to add a third just past the hour-mark but skied his finish from the left side of the penalty area after a good pass by Harris.

The visitors almost added to their lead with 11 minutes to go when a turnover in the Loudoun half led to a chance for Ray Serrano in the right side of the penalty area that Kempin parried wide of the near post. LouCity saw out the remainder of the contest, though, to remain undefeated and sit on top of the Eastern Conference at the end of the week’s action.
