Hoppenot records goal, assist to lead three-goal first half in victory at Fifth Third Bank Stadium

KENNESAW, Ga. – Detroit City FC ran its undefeated streak to four games after taking a 4-0 victory against Atlanta United 2 that saw Antoine Hoppenot notch a goal and assist to lead the visitors at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Saturday night.

Detroit almost struck inside the opening minute when Maxi Rodriguez’s free kick from right of center clipped the outside of the right post from 25 yards. The visitors continued to stay on the front foot as the half progressed, and they were rewarded in the 23rd minute off another set piece as Rodriguez’s delivery from the left was headed back across goal by Devon Amoo-Mensah at the back post for Stephen Carroll to volley home at close range. Ten minutes later, DCFC struck again when Rhys Williams outmuscled an Atlanta player to win possession in the right corner of the field and quickly delivered a cross that found Antoine Hoppenot for a flicked header to the left corner from eight yards.

DCFC added a third before the halftime break as a well-worked passing sequence moved the side up the right flank, where Hoppenot’s backheel flick sent Pato Botello Faz in on goal for a low finish to the right side of the net. Atlanta almost pulled a goal back on the hour mark when Jonantan Villal curled a shot from the top of the penalty area off the right post before the rebound was shot wide by Darwin Matheus, but Detroit added a fourth with 12 minutes to go when Deklan Wynne’s low cross from the left found Michael Bryant on the far side of the penalty area, and the midfielder controlled and fired low into the bottom-left corner of the net. A minute later, Matheus was sent off for Atlanta to reduce the hosts to 10 men, and the hosts ended the game down two players after Nigel Prince was sent off with four minutes to go after hard foul on Detroit’s Brad Dunwell as the visitors saw out the victory.
