The Lowdown: New Mexico United will try to continue its undefeated start to the season as it squares off with Oakland Roots SC for the second time. Both teams are coming off contests in which late goals cost them points, with New Mexico’s perfect start to the season coming to an end on Saturday after a 1-1 draw against Orange County SC that saw a late equalizer by the visitors at Isotopes Park cancel out Harry Swartz’s goal early in the second half. Oakland, meanwhile, held a second-half lead in its home opener against Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday at Laney Stadium but conceded a 90th-minute goal as the visitors took their first victory in club history, and Roots SC suffered its third consecutive defeat to start the campaign. The lone prior meeting between the teams came a season ago as they played to a 1-1 draw at Isotopes Park last August, but both sides will be eager for victory, with United having a chance to jump into first place in the Western Conference with all three points.

Spotlight Players
New Mexico United – Daniel Bruce:
The English midfielder has notched two assists in three appearances this season while competing diligently on the right side of United’s four-man midfield.

Oakland Roots SC – Ottar Magnus Karlsson: On loan from Serie A’s Venezia F.C., the Icelandic international notched his first two goals of the season against Monterey Bay and will be a player New Mexico’s defense needs to contain.
