The matchups for the 23 USL Championship clubs set to compete in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup were confirmed on Wednesday night after an exciting collection of action in the First Round of the tournament.

Defending Eastern Conference title-winner the Tampa Bay Rowdies will get a familiar foe in its second-round contest with USL League Two club The Villages SC set to visit Al Lang Stadium on Tuesday, April 5 after taking a 6-0 win against the Orlando FC Wolves. The Villages were the Second Round opponent for the Rowdies during the last playing of the tournament in 2019, when the Rowdies won 4-1 on home turf behind a goal and two assists by former midfielder Zach Steinberger.

Sacramento Republic FC will also host USL League Two opposition in the Portland Timbers U-23s, who took a 2-1 win against Contra Costa FC, with the game at Heart Health Park set for Thursday, April 7. Republic FC will face the Timbers U-23s for the first time in the Open Cup, but the contest could bring together two former Portland Timbers teammates on opposite sides, with Republic FC’s Rodrigo Lopez and the Timbers U-23s Futty Danso having played for the Timbers in both USL League One in 2009, the USSF Division II Pro League in 2010, and Major League Soccer in 2011.

Other confirmed Tuesday night matchups include a cross-town clash for FC Tulsa, which will face Tulsa Athletic at ONEOK Field. Elsewhere San Antonio FC will host the D’Feeters Soccer Club at Toyota Field, and New Mexico United will play host to Las Vegas Legends FC at the University of New Mexico Soccer Complex.

Miami FC will also face a fellow local club in Miami United FC on Wednesday, April 6 at FIU Stadium. Meanwhile on Thursday, April 7, Hartford Athletic will play host to Oyster Bay United F.C. at Trinity Health Stadium, while Birmingham Legion FC will play host to Mississippi club Southern States SC Stars.
