SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC got first-half goals by Kyle Adams and Charlie Adams each found the net in a 2-0 victory against Sacramento Republic FC at Torero Stadium for the second consecutive victory to start the season for the hosts.
Sacramento had a pair of chances in the opening half-hour as first Keko headed wide of the left post off a cross from the right by Douglas Martinez Jr. and then Emil Cuello sent a shot from distance to the right corner, forcing a save by SD Loyal goalkeeper Koke Vegas. The hosts took the lead 10 minutes before halftime, though, as a free kick by Alejandro Guido from the left was headed back across goal from the right side of the six-yard area by Nick Moon, allowing Kyle Adams to put home a close-range finish.
Republic FC nearly equalized a couple of minutes off a set piece of its own as Rodrigo Lopez delivered a corner from the right to the top of the penalty area where Jack Gurr met the ball cleanly on the volley but saw his effort saved. Instead, SD Loyal doubled its lead in the final minute before halftime as a half-clearance by the visitors sat up nicely for Charlie Adams to strike a first-time, left-footed shot from 25 yards into the bottom-left corner. Guido almost made it three just before the hour-mark as he cut in from the left and fired a low shot that was parried wide by Sacramento goalkeeper Carlos Saldaña, while Tumi Moshobane headed just over in the 68th minute off a cross from the left by Moon.
Last week’s hero Thomas Amang also went close 10 minutes later as he sped in behind the Sacramento defense on the left but had his short saved by Saldaña, but while the visitors tried to find a way back into the game in the closing stages, Vegas was never truly tested in the San Diego net as SD Loyal sealed all three points.
