Goals in either half earn hosts 2-0 victory in postseason rematch before 8,846 at Lynn Family Stadium

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Goals in either half by Paolo DelPiccolo and Brian Ownby sent Louisville City FC to a comfortable 2-0 victory against Miami FC on Saturday night before a crowd of 8,846 at Lynn Family Stadium in the first meeting between the Eastern Conference sides since last year’s postseason.

The hosts had the chances in the opening half-hour, but it wasn’t until the 36th minute they found the breakthrough as DelPiccolo scored on the side’s first shot on target, putting home a finish at the second attempt after a low cross from the left by Jorge Gonzalez. After holding Miami without a shot on target in the first half, Gonzalez threatened to double LouCity’s lead four minutes after the break as he controlled a deflected cross near the top of the penalty area and had a low shot to the left corner of the net saved by Miami’s Jake McGuire.

Ownby also went close as he arrived in the right side of the penalty area to volley a deflected cross by Manny Perez from the left onto the right post and behind for a goal kick. With 16 minutes to go, however, the veteran winger found the net as he drove down the right flank, cut back past a defender inside the penalty area and finished low through McGuire and into the net. Miami tried to test LouCity goalkeeper Kyle Morton late on, and both Speedy Williams and Kyle Murphy had efforts denied, but the hosts saw out a solid victory to earn their second win of the season.
