Jamaican midfielder strikes early in second half to earn a 2-1 win at Highmark Stadium

PITTSBURGH – Kenardo Forbes provided the winner on the night Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC celebrated Dane Kelly’s 100th regular season goal in the USL Championship in a 2-1 victory against Hartford Athletic at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night.

The Hounds broke the deadlock in just the 12th minute as a cross from the right by Arturo Osuna skipped through to the far post where Robbie Dambrot controlled and drove a low shot inside the right upright. Hartford answered five minutes before halftime, however, as a ball over the top by found Andre Lewis in the left side of the penalty area, allowing the Jamaican to cut a low cross through the six-yard area that Juan Carlos Obregon Jr. was on hand to tap home.

A minute later, Hartford was reduced to 10 men as Jamaican international Peter-Lee Vassell received his second yellow card of the first half. Pittsburgh then regained the lead six minutes into the second half as in a role reversal, Dane Kelly laid off a pass for Kenardo Forbes 25 yards from goal that the USL Championship’s all-time assists leader laced ferociously into the top-left corner of the net. The Hounds then saw out the contest but had to weather late pressure in stoppage time that saw Jelani Peters clear off the line from a shot by Luka Prpa before coming away with a second win to start the season.
