New Oakland Roots SC acquisition Mikael Tørset Johnsen has previously competed in the UEFA Europa League for Norway's Rosenbork BK.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Tuesday the club had acquired Mikael Tørset Johnsen on loan from Venezia F.C. of Serie A for the 2022 USL Championship season. Johnsen is the second player to join Roots SC on loan this season from Venezia following Icelandic forward Óttar Magnús Karlsson.

“We are excited to welcome in another young talent from Venezia,” said Roots SC Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “Mikael brings additional quality to move the ball quickly in our midfield, along with his experience playing with and against top competition.”

Johnsen is a product of the Rosenborg BK academy in Norway and made his professional debut for the club as a 19-year-old in April of 2019. Johnsen made appearances for Rosenborg in both Norway’s Eliteserien and the UEFA Europa League and was subsequently loaned to the famed Feyenoord youth side in 2020 and FC Dordrecht in 2021, in the Netherlands.

Following a second loan spell with Feyenoord, Johnsen was transferred to the Dutch side ahead of the 2021-22 season. In late February 2022, Venezia signed Johnsen on a free transfer, before loaning the young prospect to Roots SC for the current season.
