LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Skage Simonsen ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Simonson was selected in the Third Round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United, having previously competed collegiately for Southern Methodist University (SMU) and St. John’s University. During his time at St. John’s, Simonsen recorded nine goals and 10 assists in 38 appearances, making the All-Big East Second Team in both his freshman and sophomore year.

After transferring to SMU, the 6-foot-3 Norwegian notched 10 goals and four assists in 27 appearances. Simonsen was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team twice while playing for the Mustangs.

“Skage [Simonsen] is a very talented attacking player with good size and excels with the ball at his feet. We are excited to add his creativity to the squad,” said Loudoun United Head Coach Ryan Martin. “Skage had a great preseason with D.C. United. He has great vision on the pitch, and we believe his ability and personality are a perfect fit for our system.”
